It probably feels like the most significant decision of all: which dress to choose?

Cut through the overwhelm and have a look at our top tips for picking the right style for you.

Choose a style that fits your personality

Trends come and go, but wedding memories last forever, so you want to choose a dress that sums up your style.

Another way of looking at this is to ask yourself how you want your dress to make you feel? Do you want to look sexy, modern, classic, confident?

Get clear on what feels right for you.

Allow yourself time

Start the search a good six months before the big day, especially if you are getting something custom-made.

Also, allow yourself time when you do go dress shopping. If you can, consider scheduling time during the week, when shops are generally quieter and there are more staff available to help you.

Browse online to narrow your search

There are hundreds of styles out there. So, gather together your favourites in a private Pinterest board. You will begin to see a general theme emerge in terms of style, fabrics, colours etc.

When shopping, go with a trusted friend or loved one

You don’t need to bring the whole family for their approval, but it’s worth bringing a buddy who has your best interests at heart and will give you honest feedback.

Do a comfort test

When you are trying dresses on, remember to move around a lot: sit down, dance, walk around and stretch up high!

If your gown is so tight that breathing seems like a luxury, skip to the next one.

You’ve got to be able to relax and enjoy yourself in whatever you choose.
